The best frames are mostly patience. Four mornings at the same bend in the river before the fog finally lifted on cue.
Four mornings, the same bend in the river, the same hour before dawn. Three of them gave me nothing but cold hands and a flat grey sky. I kept going back, because that is the only thing that has ever worked.
Why I returned
Spiti's valleys fill with fog overnight and burn off the moment the sun clears the ridge. The window is maybe fifteen minutes, and it only happens when the night was still. You can't force it. You can only be standing there when it decides to happen.
Patience isn't a virtue in landscape work. It's the technique.
On the fourth morning the air didn't move. The fog sat low, the first light caught it, and for a few minutes the whole valley glowed from the inside. I made nine frames. One of them is the photograph. The other three mornings were the price.
